Congress, President, US Politics

Quite simply the best, most straight-forward guide to the question over who has the power to conduct war – The President or Congress!

A must read for your A2 politics – this article was written as a result of Obama’s actions in Libya without Congressional approval:

  1. Excellent technical article, but I would suggest the real problem is the lack of respect for the constitution and separation of powers demonstrated by the presidental branch in the decades following WWII. This lack of reverence for our founding document is likely the result of differences in the way campaigns and candidates are financed today as compared to pre WWII days. Today huge parties full of special interests pick a pretty face to read a telepromter, pour a lot of money into the campaign and kapoof you have Bush Jr. or Obama. Neither of these guys would have been taken seriously by the likes Jefferson, Adams, or Washington. Also different in those days was the informed public that would’ve laughed and heckled at the nonsense beeing suggested by most modern day politicians.
